UNREGISTERED SLEDS PDF Print E-mail

This season the registrations are far behind the normal numbers. As of last week there were only 50% of the anticipated yearly registrations. On average there are approximately 130,000 registered sleds in New York. If you see unregistered sleds using the trails we all need to remind them that they are taking trail maintenance funds away from Clubs. The law provides that a mandatory fine of $200 plus $85 sur-charge must be assessed for operating an unregistered snowmobile. That $200 fine provides that $100 be placed in the Trail fund and then we get the additional benefit of receiving the regular portion of their registration once they visit DMV. By training and working with Law Enforcement and the Local Courts, we are teaching them to that we do not tolerate unregistered snowmobiles on our trails. We do need their help in sup-porting trail development and maintenance by getting everyone to register. RIDE RIGHT, by registering. If registrations fall behind the expected 130,000 this season, it means there will be limited funds available for next year.
